Privacy policy

Last updated 14 October 2026

This policy explains how Free Legal Advice UK handles personal information when you use freelegaladvice.co.uk. The website is information-only: you can read every page without giving us any personal data. The only personal data we collect is what you choose to send through our contact form.

Who we are

The data controller is Web Designer Limited, a company registered in England & Wales (company no. 15002899), whose registered office is at 119a Flat 2 Uxbridge Road, London W7 3ST, trading as Free Legal Advice UK ("we", "us"). You can contact us about privacy using our contact form.

What we collect

  • Contact form: your name, email address and message, and your confirmation that you have read this policy.
  • Technical data: our hosting provider processes basic technical information, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect the website. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools.

We do not want sensitive information

We do not ask for, and do not want, special category data (such as information about your health, ethnicity, religion, sex life or sexual orientation) or information about criminal allegations, offences or convictions. If you send us sensitive information anyway, we will delete it.

Our lawful basis

We handle contact form messages on the basis of our legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) in reading and replying to feedback and correction requests, improving our guides, keeping the website secure and, where necessary, establishing, exercising or defending legal claims. We have considered these interests against your rights and expect the use to be one you would reasonably expect.

How we use your information

  • to read and reply to your message
  • to correct or improve our guides
  • to prevent spam and misuse of the website

We do not use your information for marketing, we do not sell or share it with law firms or anyone else for their own purposes, and we do not make automated decisions about you.

Who processes it for us

  • FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), based in the United States, which processes form submissions and delivers them to us by email
  • our email provider
  • Cloudflare, which hosts the website

We may also disclose information where the law requires it, for example in response to a court order.

International transfers

FormSubmit processes form submissions in the United States, and some of our other service providers may process data outside the UK. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on a transfer mechanism permitted by UK data protection law, such as UK adequacy regulations (including the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, where the recipient is certified) or the International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.

How long we keep it

  • Contact messages and our replies: up to 12 months from when we receive them, then deleted.
  • If a message leads to a complaint or legal claim, we may keep the relevant correspondence for up to 6 years.
  • If you ask us to delete your data earlier, we will do so unless we need to keep a limited record for legal reasons.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • be informed about how your data is used
  • access your personal data
  • have inaccurate data corrected
  • have your data erased in certain circumstances
  • restrict processing in certain circumstances
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • data portability, in certain circumstances

To exercise any of these rights, use our contact form. We will respond within one month, which can be extended in some cases.

Complaints to the ICO

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint (opens in a new tab).

Children

Our contact form is intended for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent, guardian or trusted adult to help you.
